The Objective & Plan

Good Morning!
I'm planning the Execution phase of my Master Closet Re-design. I'm capturing my work for the entertainment of family and friends through my first blog! During the next two weeks I will photo my work and share my experiences with you. I hope you find it entertaining and maybe even a little educational. :)

The objective - reorganize the master closet for ease of access to clothing, shoes, and accessories. The closet should be functional for packing for travel. It should also be decorated in a similar design as the rest of the house.

Current Master Closet Shortcomings
Currently, the closet is a disaster with shoes everywhere on the floor and on shelves. There are only 2 racks to hang clothes that are easily accessible to me, the 'shorty'. The closet is also painted with builder grade paint and scuff marks are evident and not so pretty.

The Design
I have already designed the space before the thought of blogging ever occurred to me. Therefore, I will provide a brief description of what I did over the past few weeks. First, I identified The Container Store's Elfa shelving as my component system. I've used it before, I'm familiar with the install process, and it looks fabulous! I had a designer at the store design my new closet with my input. I selected the walnut color trim & decor shelves with platinum ventilated shelving.

I also started searching for paint and wallpaper in order to make the closet a fun space to visit. I originally wanted to use flocked wallpaper but due to expense, I choose a combination of wall paper and paint. The overall vision for the closet is the Tiffany & Co box color with pops of glamour - like a glitter infused wallpaper and crystal touches everywhere. If you can't imagine it yet... Just wait. I'll build what is in my head and show it to you in a few weeks. :)

The Plan for Execution
Today is Monday and over the weekend, I purchased the paint and shelving components. (I also got a new haircut, see below.) The wall paper is on order and should be here by the weekend. The following are the details of what I need to do -
Today - eliminate clothing, shoes and accessories in the current closet. I will bring these items to Goodwill. Pack any 'off season clothing' in new containers I purchased and store them in a separate closet. I also need to do laundry, take down & store the Christmas decorations as well as pack for this week's trip.

Friday - remove all clothing from closet, remove existing hardware, and putty any dry wall damage and holes.
Saturday - paint and wallpaper (if the wall paper is in).
Sunday - install the new Elfa shelving providing the walls are dry. Replace all clothing into its new space. Re-asses the space for additional needs.
Friday - finish off the closet purchases with shoe boxes, bins, hangers and accessories.
Saturday - replace all old hangers with new hangers. Add bins, and shoe boxes to complete the design.

Hope to see you back as I make progress.
